THE WEATHER
NOVEMBER REVIEW November last year was a wet month, with floods and a low sunshine total. November this year was a showery, changeable month, with cold temperatures early in the month, and a good deal of cloudy weather. The sun shone for 197 hours 40 minutes last month (daily average 6 hours 35 minutes) compared with 182 hours 45 minutes in November. 1939. The rainfall was 3.58 inches, against 7.80 inches the previous November. The wintry weather at the beginning of the month was in strange contrast with the hot conditions in which the month ended. On Ist November a frost of 2.4 degrees was recorded. On 6th November heavy hail fell in the Waimeas, with snow oa the Maungatapu the following night. On 20th November there were two showers of hail in the city. The last few days have been hot and muggy. Yesterday the temperature rose to 71 degrees and the sun shone 13 hours 5 minutes. IN THE COUNTRY At Redwood’s Valley the Government Research Orchard recorded 3.12 inches of rain in November. At Motueka the rainfall for the past month was 3.28 inches, the maximum fall being 1.37 inches on the 7th. There were ten day 3 with rain.
