FRUIT EXPORTERS’ ASSOCIATION

PACKING CLASSES HELD Mr F. E. Clark presided at the meeting of the Motueka District Fruit Exporters’ Association, held at Lower Moutere. Mr J. O. Anderson, orchard instructor, reported on the packing classes, held as arranged, at which ten hours’ tuition had been given to eight pupils with satisfactory results. Arrangements were made to contact members in arrears with subscriptions. The chairman referred to the discussions on fruit assembly policy, as far as the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation is concerned, prior to and up to provincial conference and the decision reached at the Dominion Conference. He expressed the hope that those present would indicate their opinion on the subject so that provincial directors might be aware of it. Following explanations from various points by Mr L. B. Robinson and Advisory Board members it was resolved to advise the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation that this Association was opposed to the Federation acting as agents for the Internal Marketing Division in the assembly and dispatch of fruit for market or storage. A draft of new rules to conform with conference decision that directors be elected by ballot was considered. The opinion was expressed that the ballot paper should be as simple as possible and that the present suggestions about actual voting were liable to cause confusion and were in any event a departure from the accepted form in Parliamentary and local body elections. It was considered also that some clause must be inserted to define the actual time of the year or dates within which the election would be held. Reference was made, at a recent Advisory Board meeting, to action about the impost of 5 per cent, charged by Transport Ltd., on accounts not paid by the 20th of the month. THANKS TO MR HOLYOAKE The secretary was instructed to write to Mr K. J. Holyoake expressing appre ciation of his services to the Motueka Fruit Exporters’ Association in past years and wishing him every success in his new sphere. It was decided to invite Mr J. G. Barclay, M.P.. to meet the executive of the Association during his forthcoming visit to the district.
