AUSTRALIAN POLITICAL POSITION
SUDDEN GENERAL ELECTION A POSSIBILITY ADVOCATES FOR NATIONAL GOVERNMENT fU.P.A.-By Electrit - > HDh-Copyriehl | (Received 30th November. 2 p.m.) SYDNEY. This Day. The Sydney “Herald’s” Canberra correspondent says: “If the Federal Ministry is defeated on the Labour amendment to the Budget, fresh moves will probably be made to form a National Government. Several members of the United Australia Party made it clear that they would support any leader who made a genuine attempt to form the strongest possible ; all-party Cabinet. A last-minute concession by one side or the other hew- I ever, may still save the Menzies minis- ! try. Labour members are confident I that the Government will compromise.! Another possibility f the Government is defeated is a sudden general election and officers of the Official Labour Party have been instructed to prepare for it without delay.”
