ENDEAVOURS TO EXTRICATE

PER MEDIUM OF PUPPET GOVERNMENT ANOTHER “FINAL APPEAL” TO KAI-SHEK [U.P.A.-By Electric Telegraph-Copyright] I (Received 30th November, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON. 29th November. Japan is doing her utmost to extricate herself from her troubles in China through the medium of Mr Wang Ching-wei’s puppet Government in Nanking. According to a Tokio report, Mr Wang Ching-wei l has made yet another final appeal | to General Chiaug Kai-shek to agree to an armistice to discuss I terms. It will be remembered that General Chiang has always declared that he will not consider an armistice so long as any Japanese troops remain on Chinese soil. This firm attitude is emphasised by a statement from Chungking to-day that the Chinese Government will certainly ignore the terms of any appeal such as Mr Wang is likely to make. In spite of the Japanese invasion China’s industrial strength is being reestablished. Since the outbreak of the | war 440 industrial enterprises have been transferred to the interior of China, and 120,000 tons of machine parts were actually sent from occupied territory. Further evidence of Chinese-British co-operation is to be found in the fact that the chairman of the Chinese armament commission has arrived at Delhi for consultation with the permament body set up by the recent conference of British Empire countries east of Suez.
