LIVE STOCK MARKET

THIS WEEK’S BLENHEIM SALE LARGER ENTRY OF FATS SHARP FALL IN PRICES The entry at the weekly Blenheim stock sale numbered just on 750, compared with under 300 the week before (reports the ‘Express’’). The quality of the yarding was really good, there being a number of pens of ewes which equalled anything seen at the yards in recent months, but in spite of this attraction, the inquiry was disappointingly poor, and prices for ewes fell by about 2s 6d on those ruling last week. The rates for wethers also showed a slight easing off. Wethers were strongly represented, the entry totalling 315. The top price was 25s lOd. which was paid for eight good sheep owned by Checkley and Son, Another attractive pen offered on account of Mr C. D. Cunningham made 24s 4d. Further sheep sold by the same vendor realised 23s lOd, 22s 4d, and 21s lOd. A number of sales were made at round about 22s lOd. For the ewes there was very poor inquiry. Several lots were passed in at disappointing prices, while others were allowed to go at well below their values. A pen of shorn maiden ewes, owned by Mr G. Fairhall, topped the list at 18s 4d, and three meaty sheep were quickly run up to 17s 4d before being quitted. Two attractive lots offered on account of Mr F. C. Carr and Mr E. Squire made 16s Id down to 14s Id. Several pens of woolly ewes owned by Mr F. W. Pattie were brought forward in good condition. sales being made at 23s lOd and 22s lOd. Another good pen was passed in at 25s 6d. A further batch of spring lambs was on the market, but only two butchers were interested in this line of sheep. Three very ®forward lambs made 24s Id, and one slightly smaller lamb fetched 19s 7d. Two other good pens were passed in. A pen of eight big woolly hoggets owned by Mr Pattje made 24s lOd. THE STORE SECTION Very little interest was shown in the store section which comprised a few small pens of ewes with lambs at foot, a line of hoagets. and two pens of good wethers. There was no inqiury for the ewes and the hoggets, but the wethers, some shorn fat and forward two and four-tooth Romneys, attracted bright competition. Both pens were disposed of. the prices being 18s 5d and 19s 6cL
