TAKAKA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
SOLDIER MEMBER HONOURED The Presbyterian Social Hall, Takaka, was the scene of a cheery informal gathering for the purpose of entertaining Private J. A. (“Jock") Feary, of the Fourth Reinforcements. Some forty-odd friends from the Bible Class and Church joined in wishing the guest God-speed and a safe return and showed their esteem by presenting him with a specially-encased camera, accompanied by the autographs of all present. The presentation was made by the Rev. D. W. Morgan, and other speakers, who paid tribute to sterling character and popularity of the guest, were Mr D. Papps and Mrs O. E. R. Page. Private Feary suitably responded and was accorded musical honours. Games, competitions and songs filled the evening’6 programme. Vocal solos were contributed by Mrs J. Roche and Miss Betty Willox. Competitions were arranged and accompaniments played by Mrs O. E. R. Page. Very appropriately the humorous competition, “Packing Jock’s Kit,” was won by Private Feary. The evening terminated with song favourites and the National Anthem.
