BIBLE SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY SERVICES Despite adverse weather conditions a large and appreciative congregation gathered at the School of Music last evening on the occasion of the annual demonstration and prize giving of the Church of Christ Bible School. The j school and choir, under the conductor. ' Mr G. L. Page, again feelingly render- j ed their anniversary hymns. Mr lan Inglis was at the Cawthron organ. The superintendent. Mr A. E. Brough, presided, and in the course of his remarks. gave a brief resume of the year’s work. There had been a slight decrease in the number on the roll this year, and it now stood at 194, and the I cradle roll 45. Prizes had been awarded to all scholars who gained 75 per ! cent, of the possible marks for the year, and 68 out of a total of 81 in the intermediate school had reached the required standard, while 69 awards were made for perfect attendance. Fiftythree scholars entered the Dominion Bible School’s Scripture examinations, and the school had been successful in , gaining four prizes and 44 other awards; ; one of the scholars. Margaret Hill, gain- j ing first prize in her grade with 100 per cent. Mr Brough concluded by ex- ; pressing thanks to all who had assisted Ir. the school during the year, and stressed the importance of the Youth Movement represented by the Bible ; Schools, which was out on a world conquest not by force but love. j The Superintendent then called upon Mrs H. Atm ore to present the prizes. Mrs Atmore impressed upon all the responsibility which rested upon those who were training the children. In congratulating the Mayor upon the training of the choir, the speaker drew the lesson of humility: to serve God well; to put fu'st things first, love, truth, beauty, kindness, unselfishness and all j that Jesus taught. The truly great men ! and women were not those who were | rich, but the people who have learned I to share, and have consecrated their all and used it wisely to further the King- j dom of God. Special prizes have been awarded by the School to those scholars obtaining the highest percentage in each grade of the Dominion'Scripture examination, as follows :—Grade 1 Trevor Woodhouse: grade 2. Margaret Hill; grade 3, Ngaire Batchelor and Pattie Strange, equal: grade 4. Hubert Hill. During the evening items were rendered by the scholars, interspersed with singing by the school, including solos by Miss D. Willis and Master W. Gillespie! and a duet by Misses J. Wilkins and D. Way. The Anniversary services will conclude on Thursday evening with the annual tea to be held in the School Hall. Waimea street.
