NELSON QUEEN CARNIVAL

MEETING OF COMMITTEES Last evening there was a largely attended and enthusiastic meeting of the Nelson Queen Carnival committees. Each of the Army, Navy and Air Force committees was wel represented and great keenness was shown in the discussions which took place on the allocation of groups of the public to support the various Queens and in other matters in the organisation of the carnival. The cai'nival which will be held for patriotic purposes will open on the 26th December and will continue until the 15th February. No canvass or public appeal will be allowed under the rules of the carnival until Boxing Day. A big opening day for all Queens will be held at Tahuna beach on New Year’s Day. The announcement of the names of all the Queens will be made on the same date. The following allocation of groups to support the Queens was made:— Army: retailers. Navy: nursing and allied professions, doctors, bankei's, dentists, accountants, clerical and shipping. Air Force: transport and garages, wholesalers, commercial travellers and hotel keepers. Mr A. H. Crawley, the chairman, said it was very pleasing to see such a large attendance. It was evident that keen interest was already being shown and he hoped that it would continue through the period of the carnival.
