£300,000 CHURCH APPEAL
CONTINUATION FOR YEAR £250,000 ALREADY GIVEN [United Press Association] PALMERSTON N„ 17th November. The Presbyterian Church three years ago aimed a* a special Centennial effort to raise £300.000 by 1940. Of that amount £200,000 was set aside for the extinction of Church debts. An announcement was made at the General Assembly that the £250.000 mark had been reached. There was also an announcement that this figure must be considerably augmented when reports not yet to hand were received. Tributes were paid to the way in which congregations had responded, in spite of the fact that the war must have interfered with the intentions of many contributors. It was decided to continue the appeal for another year It was also reported that the North Island had made a quicker response than the South Island. The former had been asked to find £137.800 and returns to date showed £134.000 contributed. Confidence was expressed that the full quota would be raised.
