DEMOCRATIC LABOUR
NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF PARTY [United Press Association] WELLINGTON. This Day. It is officially announced that the first national conference of the New Zealand Democratic Labour Party will be held in Wellington to-morrow. Sunday and Monday. Delegates will be attending from branches all over the Dominion as well as duly credited visitors. The chairman of the conference will be Mr P. Connors, Wellington, chairman of the provisional national executive established in June last. The chief items of business will be the chairman’s address, report of the executive. Parliamentary report ,to be presented by Mr Lee, M.P., policy statement by Mr Barnard, M.P., constitution, organisation and election of officers.
The immediate policy of the Democratic Labour Party as decided by the conference will be announced by Messrs Lee and Barnard at a public meeting in the Town Hall on Monday night.
The official announcement adds that more than 60 branches of the new party have been established since the formation gathering in Grey Lynn in April, and conveners have been appointed in numerous other centres. Members have been drawn from both the other political parties .It is hoped that the first national conference—the formation conference—will establish the Democratic Labour Party on a thoroughly democratic basis to weld members together in a spirit of comradeship to fight for Socialist principles.
