BRITAIN’S SEA POWER MEANS OF SMASHING DISCUSSED [U.P.A.-By Electric Telegraph-Copyright] (Received 25th October, 11.16 a.m.) LONDON, 24th October. The Berne correspondent ol the Associated Press of Great Britain says diplomats are of opinion that the dictators discussed means of smashing Britain’s sea road via the Cope ol Good Hope, basing Axis warships on Spain’s Atlantic coast. Herr Hitler quoted M. Laval as saying that France would starve unless the British blockade was broken.
The meeting between Herr Hitler and General Franco lasted 150 minutes, says a message from Madrid. Herr von Ribbentrop and Senor Suner attended and later conferred separately.
The occasion was marked by much pomp and ceremony and completely surprised the majority of Spaniards. Newspapers publish no more than the official communiques.
The Berlin radio stated that the talks will be an eye-opener to Britishers General Franco’s Spain is Falangist, consequently anti-piutocratic.
The Rome radio said the talks will bear fruit in time and wii! undoubtedly affect the reorganisation of Europe.
