The mayor and citizens of Greater Victoria have cabled £3900 to the Lord Mayor of London’s air raid distress fund. “The spirit of London is the spirit of the Empire,” the cable stated, “and compels the admiration of free men the world over.” The National Savings Committee has announced that Liverpool raised £11,808,741, equivalent to £l4 2s 3d a head of population, during “war weapons week.” Mr Churchill, Sir Kingsley Wood and Sir Robert Kindersley, president of the National Saving Committee, and Captain Crookshank, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, sent congratulations to the Lord Mayor of Liverpool. The city of Westminster raised £1,162,000 on the opening day of its “war weapons week.”
