MINISTER’S APPRECIATION

BULLER TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL [United Press Associationj WESTPORT, 23rd October. In an interview, the Minister of Labour, Mr Webb, made the following statement: “I desire to express my very warm appreciation at the magnificent manner in which the Buller Trades a A$ Labour Council responded to the Government’s appeal for wholehearted co-operation in the country’s war effort. The council is already represented on the Home Guard Committee and it has appealed to all of the affiliations to join up. In fact drilling has already commenced in Denniston and keen interest is manifest in all mining fields. “The council is also represented on the Patriotic Committee, and I have expressed the hope that all committees functioning in connection with our war effort will have representatives of the Trades and Labour Council on them. “The council expressed itself as 100 per cent behind the Government in its war effort, and to-day a committee has been set up representing local bodies and the Trades and Labour Council to discuss all labour questions and how to utilise men now employed on different relief schemes to the best advantage to the country. “I have personally expressed my thanks to this committee for its cooperation and I am confident that as a result of very many wise and practical suggestions made by its members, nothing but good can accrue.’
