CENTRAL TAKAKA RESIDENTS FAREWELLED

PRESENTATIONS TO MR AND MRS ALF. SMITH Prior to their departure to take up residence in Brightwater, Mr and Mrs Alf. Smith were farewelled at a social and dance given in their honour by residents of Central Takaka. The large crowd, was evidence of the: popularity enjoyed by Mr and Mrs | Smith during their lengthy residence; in the district. Mr j Hodgkinson also congratulated Mr j Smith on having taken the opportunity j of bettering his position. On behalf of the stalf of the Golden j Bay Co-operative Dairy Company, by : whom Mr Smith has been employed for the past 16 years, Mr J. W. Murray | asked Mr and Mrs Smith to accept the! gift of a handsome chiming clock as a token of goodwill and esteem from Mr Smith’s workmates. He spoke of Mr I and Mrs Smith’s popularity and con-j gratulated the former on his promotion. Mr Smith, he said, had always I been a conscientious and efficient! workman and had carried out his] duties in such a way as to merit the! respect of all with whom he came in] contact. All would regret Mr and Mrs Smith’s departure, but would wish them "all the best” in their new sphere. At a meeting on Friday of the Board I of Directors of the Golden Bay Co-! operative Dairy Company, Mr Smith was the recipient of a cheque in recog-1 nition of .the excellent service he had 1 given the company. The presentation was made by the! chairman of directors (Mr E. J. Windle), who, in expressing the goodwill of thte directors, referred to the qualities of Mr Smith and congratulated him on his well-earned promotion.
