IMPORT LICENSES
GOODS ON ARMADALE PROCEDURE MODIFIED [United Press Associationj WELLINGTON, 27th September. A modification of the procedure, to the advantage of importers, in regard to the admission to New Zealand of goods on the Armadale, is notified in a communication to the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand by the Minister of Customs, Mr Nash. “Referring to previous correspondence concerning the admission under second-period licences of cargo carried by the Armadale,” says the Minister, “I wish to inform you that I have given some further thought to this matter. Upon a review of all the circumstances, and in the light of the representations which have been mada to me as to the hardship which has been caused to importers as a result of the original decision, it has now been decided to modify the procedure previously laid down insofar as it affects goods loaded on the vessel at New York.
“Where such goods have been endorsed against a third or fourth-period licence held by an importer, a special fourth-period licence will be issued to the value of the goods so endorsed if the importer considers that the balance remaining on his existing licences is insufficient to cover his requirements for the remainder of 1940. In other cases where the importer held no licence in respect of the third or fourth period under which the goods could be entered, and a special fourth-period licence has accordingly been issued to cover the goods on condition that the ] a lount involved would be deducted I from the importer’s allocation for the i fifth or subsequent period, the licence will not now be regarded as a charge against the allocation for a later period.
“Importers who are affected should make application accordingly to the Customs Department”
