WAGE INCREASE

GOVERNMENT ACTION MINISTER'S HINT (United Press Association] AUCKLAND. 16th August. “The whole effect of the Court’s decision on salaries and wages generally is being examined," declared the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) in an interview to-day. The Minister also indicated that it might be necessary to provide, in a Finance Bill yet to come before Parliament, for the carrying-out of any decision arrived at by the Government in respect of the Arbitration Court’s pronouncement. Mr Nash was also asked what was to be the position of the Civil Service in relation to the pronouncement. “That question is now under consideration by the Government.” replied the Minister. “I cannot see any necessity for it,” was the reply made by Mr Nash when he was asked whether a supplementary Budget would be presented to Parliament next week.
