GOLDEN BAY RUGBY

TARAKOHE 9, GOLDEN BAY 5 In a senior Rugby match on Saturday Tarakohe defeated Golden Bay 9-5. Tarakohe opened with a forward rush right to Bay line. Hard kicking by the forwards as usual meant a force down. Passing by the Blue backs Haase to Mitchell to Taylor gained ground. Bay forwards headed by Ellery took play down to Tarakohe 25. A free kick to the blues and whites saved thep osition for a while. Very exciting play by the Bay forwards resulted in Ellery scoring, after D. Ward led the attack Ward converted the try. Bay 5, Tarakohe 0. Tarakohe attacking right away took play to Bay quarters. Love relieved by a nice kick. Taylor took several free kicks for Tarakohe but failed. Coppell scored for Tarakohe. Tarakohe 3, Bay 5.

Shortly afterwards faulty kicking by Bay backs let Taylor*in for a try. Coppell’s attempt to goal was poor. Tarakehe 6, Bay 5. After half time a light rain set in which resulted in play being chiefly of a forward nature. Several easy shots at goal by Taylor were pointless—the ball was greasy and heavy. Walker, of Bay, redeemed his poor “specking” by later making two fine saves. A good run by Webber meant another try for Tarakohe. Time sounded with Tarakohe winning 9 to 5. Mr P. R. Reilly was the referee. JUNIOR MATCH Old Boys juniors beat Collingwood by 6 to nil. Stewart in the early part of the game put over a penalty for Old Boys. Papps scored for Old Boys by following up well. The handling and passing by both sets of backs was very poor and movements repeatedly broke down. Stewart made a fine sidestepping run to beat half the Collingwood team but failed to ground the ball. Stewart and B. Small inside backs for Old Boys with S. Small at full back played well. Riley Bros, did good work for Collingwood. Mr T. Raharuhi was the referee.
