DAY AND NIGHT OPERATIONS AIRCRAFT FACTORIES AND NAVAL BASE ALSO BOMBED [British Official Wireless] (Received 26th June, 11.40 a.m.) RUGBY, 25th June. The Air Ministry announced: “Yes- i , terday our bombers, although hamper- ; ; cd by bad visibility, attacked aero- • dromes at Eindhoven, Schipol and j »; Waaljiaven. These are bases in occu- ; £ pied Dutch territory from which enemy bombers can set out to attack this | • country. The operations were continZ ued during the night. Schipol was j T again attacked and also an aerodrome ■ ' at De Kookooy. Aerodromes at Mul- | heim in. the Ruhr and Kassel in West- j phalia were also bombed. 'Other formations of our bombers at...tacKcd the naval base at Helder where | . .an explosion and fires were caused. At Dortmund in the Rhur oil depots and marshalling yards . were bombed, also targets at Kemen, Dortmund, and Ane, Kassel, where aircraft works were set on fire. Aerodrome buildings and aircraft works at Deichshausen, near Bremen, were also attacked. Other aircraft i bombed the Dortmund-Emms Canal j • where lock gates and barges were hit Railway junctions and stations near i Emmerich between the Ruhr and the | Dutch frontier were also damaged. All our aircraft returned safely from both ; day and night operations. “One Avro Anson aircraft of the | Coastal Command was attacked by four Messerschmitt single-engine fighters while on patrol over the English Chan- | nel. In the. ensuing engagement one i Messerschmitt was shot down in flames i and the other enemy fighters abandoned the pursuit and our aircraft returned ; safely to its base.”
