“UNITED ARABIA” PLAN IN LONDON

BUFFER STATE TO KEEP THE PEACE “TIME IS RIPE” [By Air Mail—Special Correspondent] LONDON, Ist June. Prince Habib Lotfallah, lineal descendant of the Kings of Antioch of 2000 years ago, has come to London from his home in Egypt to try to interest the British Government in a plan he has for a united Arabia. He forsees in Arabia a buffer state between the East and West and a means of keeping the peace between Europe and Asia. He has had a varied life and has been chancellor of the Kingdom of Hedjaz, Counsellor for Foreign Affairs to the late King Hussem of Egypt, Ambassa- I dor in Rome and Moscow, Governor of Lebannon. “I hear talk of a Holy War being waged on behalf of the Allies in the Near East,” the Prince said this week. “A unified Arabia would be far more useful to Britain than any Holy War. The Germans made the mistake of proclaiming a Holy War in 1915.” “Everything is ripe for unification. The people would welcome it. At present, in a land where 120 million people used to live and be rich, 18 millions live in poverty.” The influence of a State where all the Semitic races, Jews. Mohammedans and Christians were united would, he thinks, be immense.
