NELSON TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
CARD FUNCTIONS IN AID OF PATRIOTIC FUNDS Despite the many other attractions, all working for the same cause, the Nelson Townswomen’s Guild Card Parties still receive their share of patronage. The recent card evening held showed an increase again in attendance, and a very happy time was spent by all. The Marsden Hall was very cosy, being warmed by two gas heaters, which are lit very early in the evening, and with a hot cup of tea and sandwiches to set them up before facing the cold, patrons were well satisfied with their evening out. Mr J. Holmes very kindly acted as M.C., and Mrs J. Wright presented prizes as follows: First prizes to Mr and Mrs Cullen, Mrs Winstanley and Mrs Burt; consolation prizes to Mr and Mrs A. Rowe and Mrs H Rowe and Mrs Stevenson. The Guild art? endeavouring to raise a considerable sum by the end of this month so that they can send a good number of parcels away to the Nelson boys. Prizes have been donated by members, and to swell the funds more it has been decided to run a Card Afternoon as well. Although several I members have arranged tables patrons are urged not to stay away if they cannot fill a table, as they will all be i placed. To help defray expenses those i responsible for a table are bringing a j plate of scones, pikelets or bread and | butter, but there is to be no cake, this arrangement being for the card afternoon only. The Guild extends a cordial invitation to everyone to attend the Card Evening to be held next Wednesday evening, and also the card afternoon to be held next Friday, both functions in the Marsden Hall Library.
