A preliminary inquiry into the loss j of the Niagara was held to-day by the Superintendent of the Mercantile Mar- ! ine in Auckland, Captain H. A. Dillner. Evidence was given by the master, ! Captain Martin, also various officers , and members of the crew. Captain Dillner's report will be forwarded to the Secretary of the Marine i Department, Wellington.
