WAR OFFICE DENIAL

REPORT FROM AMERICAN SOURCE [British Official Wireless] (Received 30th April, 1.40 p.m.) RUGBY, 29th April. The War Office announces: Statements made that the British commander at Namsos has been superseded by a French officer are untrue. Statements that our men wen untrained and without reserves are nonsense. As in a previous exaggerated statement the reports have been based on a conversation with a soldier influenced by his personal experience during the heat of battle and without knowledge of the situation as a whole.

This refers to an American report to that effect
