Solly) presiding over a fair attendance of members. The secretary and treasurer (Mr K. Prince) presented his annual report and balance sheet, both of which were adopted. The president congratulated the secretary upon his report and stated j that the credit balance which was ( shown in the balance sheet was most ! creditable. Prior to the election of officers, the president made brief reference to the prospects of the code during the coming year, and stated that the future for junior and B grade clubs was most promising owing to the prominence which would be their portion, on account of the inroads which the demands of enlistment had made upon the ranks of senior players. The speaker urged the junior players to make the season one of sustained effort as the bulk of competitive play would devolve upon the junior clubs, now that the senior field was depleted. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron. Mr J. A. Lockhart; i president, Mr H. F. Solly; vice-presi-dents, Messrs C. Strickland, J. W. Bensemann and L. W. Perry; club captain. Mr C. TAKAKA WEDDING BALLANTYNE—WIN A pretty wedding was solemnised at Takaka recently by Rev. W. D. Morgan when in the Presbyterian Church, Gwendolyn Juanita, second daughter of Mr and Mrs L. Win, of Howard, Murchison, was married to Duncan, second son of Mr and Mrs P. Ballantyne, of Puponga, Golden Bay. The bride entered the church on the i arm of her father, in a white satin : frock, a long veil also forming part of j I the train, and carried a charming j I bouquet of white flowers and maiden- ] hair fern. The bridesmaid, Miss Sadie Win, sis- | ter of the bride wore a frock of green j taffeta with trimmings of pink organdie j and carried a bouquet of pink asters j and maidenhair fern, i Mr Andrew Beattie was best man. i After the ceremony a reception was held in Beattie’s tea-rooms, where the guests were received by Mrs Win, who wore a frock of navy blue with hat and accessories to tone. The bridegroom’s mother assisted Mrs Win, and wore a dark rust frock with accessories to match. ! Mr J. P. Cottier acted as toast-master, and the customary toasts werr honour- ! ed. Telegrams and letters of congrat- j ulation and good wishes were read by ] the best man. The many gifts received by the happy couple were on view and included presents from the Directors of the Golden Bay Power Board, and from > fellow-members of the bridegroom on the staff of the Board. The bride travelled in a brown costume, with hat and accessories to tone. The happy couple left for a honeymoon in the South, j Mr and Mrs Ballantyne's future j home will be in Takaka. I GIFT FOR INJURED TAKAKA BOY FROM A RICHMOND SYMPATHISER An interesting instance of the kindliness of human nature was revealed recently, when, following the report in “The Mail” of an accident ,which had happened to a Takaka boy of 11 years, who had the misfortune to fall into a bucket of boiling-water, the victim of the mishap received, from Richmond, a copy of a comic paper and a parcel containing a writing pad and a pencil. The sender, proved to be a lad who works on a milk-run in that centre, and who had, on reading of the misfortune which had visited another lad of similar age to himself, felt compelled to show his sympathy in some practical form. Needless to say the recipient of this tangible sympathy lost no time in writing to his benefactor, and it is certain that a pen friendship will be established which will prove of mutual interest to both parties. PERSONALS Mrs Gibb (Wellington) is the guest of er sister Mrs W. Satherley (Collingwood). Mr N. J. Doogan (Collingwood) left for Wellington yesterday. Mr and Mrs E. Baker (Takaka) rei turned home yesterday.
