NELSON BOARD’S MEETING LIST OF URGENT WORKS The monthly meeting of the Nelson Education Board was concluded yesterday afternoon. i It was reported that the working plans and specifications of the new school building for Tapawera had been completed and forwarded to the Department. The Little Wanganui committee was granted permission to construct a tennis court in the schoolground. The Reefton Committee w'as granted .£lO towards incidental expenses. The Education Department wrote advising that the Riwaka and Brightwater schools had gained awards in the Centennial Exhibition Regional Surveys competition and the board decided to congratulate the two schools on their Mr J. R. Grigg, headmaster at Brightwater, submitted a detailed report on the school camp, for standards 4, 5 or 6 at Snowden’s Bush and it was decided that Mr Grigg be thanked for his report and congratulated on organising the camp. Permission was granted for the holding of the Motueka combined school sports on the 29th March and several members of the board were asked to he present. The Onekaka Committee was granted £ls towards incidental expenses. The secretary reported on the arrangements made for manual instruction at Murchison. TEACHERSHIP APPOINTMENTS The following teachership appointments were made:—• Motueka District High School, secondary assistant mistress: Miss E. M. Lamason (Auckland). Tahunanui, infant mistress: Miss A. M. Searle (Waltham). Westport, assistant mistress: Miss F. P. O’Gorman (Southbridge). Collingwood, assistant mistress: Miss V. C. McConnel (Opawa). Waiuta, assistant mistress: Miss Francis M. Nimmo (Waiuta). LIST OF URGENT WORKS The board approved the following list of urgent works, in order, to be forwarded to the Department:— Works in hand: Denniston, new school; Nelson Central, remodelling Renwick Estate building. Works for which approval has been given to call tenders: Black’s Point, new school; Mahana, additional classroom; Takaka Central, new school; Takaka Central, installation of pressure water supply; Takaka Central, shifting and reerection of residence; Westport South, new school. Buildings urgently required owing to increased attendance or consolidation: Tapawera, new school; Murchison, additional secondary classroom; Hampden Street, additional classroom. Ordinary list of urgent works:— Takaka D.H.S., new laboratory; Westport North, new school; Motueka, new school, remodelling brick building for secondary department; Seddonville, new school; Karamea, new residence; Hampden Street, remodelling main school block; Richmond, Extension of infants’ room; Brightwater, extension of infants’ room; Hope, new school; Takaka District High School, new residence; Orinoco, new school; Aorere, new school; Inangahua landing, new school; Murchison, new school.
