HAIRDRESSERS DEFEAT ANCHOR FOUNDRY CENTURIES TO GLOVER AND CHEEVERS A very exciting game was played at the week-end by the Hairdressers and Anchor Company teams which resulted in another win for the Hairdressers—not only keen on razors but also at cricket. The Foundry won the toss and elected to bat. Bob Vass and Doug. Moore opened and in the first over the former was brilliantly caught behind by Edwards. Hairdressers were very lucky in getting rid of Nelson’s leading batsmen but there was another thorn in the Foundry side “Dank” Glover who knocked up a quick 111 not out. The Foundry innings closed at the grand score of 237 but the Hairdressers never lost heart at the big score, so opened their innings with Harris and Cheevers, Harris falling a victim early but Winter and Cheevers carried the score along slowly. Cheevers batted in his usual neat style to score 100 not out and Winter GO was a great help to the Hairdressers. Only requiring three to win the old timer Harry Canning went to the crease and got the required number including a nice 6 in his 17 runs not forgetting taking three wickets for a small number of runs and the innings closed for the grand total o- 278 runs, leaving the sh.-.vers the winners by 41 runs. In the four and a half hours played there were 515 runs runs scored which showed there were no dull moments.
