ATHLETIC NOTES
RUNNERS FOR WELLINGTON CHAMPIONSHIPS VISIT OF AUSTRALIANS For the Wellington provincial championships on 2nd March the Nelson Amateur Athletic Club has nominated the following athletes: J. Barron, 880yds and mile; D. R. Blundell, junior high jump; D. MacMorland, 880yds and 1 mile; Miss S. Barry, 100 and 220yds ladies’; H. N. Crooks,.junior 100 and 220yds. If any of these athletes show promise they are likely to be nominated for the New Zealand championships to be held in Wellington on the Bth and oth of March. D. MacMorland and E. Blumhardt are also nominated for the New Zealand Public Service championships on 11th March at Wellington. The Marlborough Athletic Club has notified that 9th March is not a suitable date for the Hester Shield, and it has now been decided that 16th March will definitely be the date for the second contest. AUSTRALIAN ATHLETES The team of Australian University athletes which will probably be competing in Nelson towards the end of March are leaving Sydney early in •' larch, and returning early in April. The team comprises:B. Dunn, who is a sprinter; B. Curtain, 220 and 440yds; W. \rrowsmith, middle distance runner; Wilson, hurdler and sprinter; R. Hefferman, jumper; G. Parkin, mile runAnother member of the club, R. Kenning, has enlisted and been accepted for service in the third echelon. NEXT WEDNESDAY’S MEETING Another handicap meeting will be reld at Trafalgar Park on Wednesday vening, when the programme will be: fop, step and jump, 75yds ladies’, 100 ds. junior, 100yds senior, boys’ cycle, ne cycle, 440yds, one mile, boys’ nd girls’ races, men’s and ladies’ relay, ladies’, 220yds junior and senior, ?ive mile cycle, shot put.
