CENSORING LETTERS
REPLY FROM CONTROLLER DOMINION’S MILITARY EFFORT Pointing out that matter deleted was largely determined by the general terms of the correspondence, the controller of censorship has replied to a communication from the Auckland Chamber of I Commerce asking for informtaion concerning the censorship of correspondence despatched overseas. The controller stated that no reference could be made to any matter likely to prejudice steps taken in the Dominion to assist the armed forces if Great Britain. Censorship was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Censorship and Publicity Emergency Regulations, 1939. The representations were the outcome I of a discussion at a meeting of the council of the chamber, when it was' submitted that a list for guidance j should be made of the topics to bei avoided. It was stated that passages had been deleted from letters of no military significance. I
