HAWKE CUP GAME

WAIKATO FIGHTING FOR RUNS [United Press Association} HAMILTON, 27th January. Winning the toss when the Hawke Cup cricket match began at 3 p.m., the start having been delayed by rain, the challengers, Manawatu, put Waikato in to bat. The wicket was very wet and a gusty wind blowing across the ground made conditions unpleasant. Pritchard gave Manawatu an early advantage when he clean bowled A. Lissette and J. Everest in the first over, and from then on Waikato was always fighting hard for runs under difficult conditions. With Manawatu’s strong attack, Waikato did well to reach three figures, but, with signs of the weather clearing, Manawatu look to have a good chance of batting on a good wicket. Stumps were drawn with the score 118 for nine. Scores:— WAIKATO First Innings A. Lissette, b Pritchard 0 J. Everest, b Pritchard I J. D. Bright, c Carlisle, b Downes 25 J.
