A VISITORS IMPRESSION

[To The Editor) Sir, —Would you allow me to comment on the way in which Nelson has gone ahead in the last two or three years. We came for a holiday after being in the backblocks for nearly three years, and we could not help noticing how beautiful Nelson has been made. The ugly piece of ground the other side of the Post Office has been made into a parking area, and laid out wonderfully with flowers. The gardens are delightful with masses of flowers, and it seems lovely to see a place change so much for the better. There is no doubt about it, Nelson is a good place for the nerves with sea round it, and very fine schools, especially the Auckland Point which stands out so conspicuously with its many windows and well-kept appearance. Visitors should take a run around these beautiful parts of Nelson when they come. At Tahuna we had a camp motor for which everything was supplied, except blankets and linen. Everything was beautifully fitted up, and we had even gas and lights. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the time. A shop or canteen is there which supplied everything for a good holiday. Water and fireplaces available, and there are dustbins which are emptied every day. The conveniences are kept beautifully clean, and everything is a credit to the caretaker. There were people from all over the country, Dunedin, Christchurch and other places. Two hundred and thirty people were camped there for Christmas time, and more came for the New Year. There must have been nearly 300 people altogether. The beach is lovely, and we had grand weather—real Nelson weather. Some people must have suffered from sunburn. Well, we enjoyed every minute of our time, after being so long away. Speaking of the Trampers’ Club, it was a pity they did not go oiA to Mangarakau. There is a beautiful road through the hills, just finished. When they went as far as Collingwood it was worth going further as the road has been widened. Perhaps they will go to Mangarakau another time. It must have been a wonderful time and a splendid way to see this beautiful country, New Zealand.—l am, etc., A VISITOR. Nelson, 10th January.
