STIRRING SEND-OFF TO CAMP
MEN OF THE SECOND ECHELON (United Press Association] AUCKLAND, This Day. A stirring send-off to the men who have joined up for the Second Echelon was given when they marched through the city this morning before entraining for Papakura and Ngaruawahia camps, led by a military band. A section of three hundred for Papakura first marched down Queen street acclaimed by the crowds at various points, especially groups of cheering girls clustered in office windows. After a brief interval a second batch for Ngaruawahia also had an enthusiastic farewell. OTAGO DETACHMENT A detachment of 135 men for the Second Echelon qntrained for Burnham this morning, this completing approximately half of Otago’s quota. With the numbers yet to go before the Medical Board it is thought that the quota will be filled within a fortnight.
