LAND OF WAITAKERES

BEQUEST TO AUCKLAND CITY [United Press Association] AUCKLAND, 10th January. An area of land in the Waitakere Ranges has been bequeathed to the mayor, councillors and citizens of Auckland by Mr Edward Smyth, farmer, Waitakere, who died on 9th December, and probate of whose will has been granted in the Supreme Court. The land comprised in the estate is left as a public park or domain on condition that the city council adopts a resolution agreeing to hold it for the purposes of the Auckland Provincial Centennial Memorial. As the estate has been valued for probate at under £SOO, it is thought the area involved is not large. The council* which is the sole legatee, was notified of the bequest just before the holidays, and a report is being obtained to find out whether the property is likely to make a suitable addition to the tract of land which it is proposed to acquire for the purposes of the memorial.
