NOTES AND COMMENTS J. Barron who will represent Nelson at the Country Clubs’ Championships in Wellington in the one and three mile events on Saturday next, ran a surprisingly good race to win the half mile in the good time of lmin 58 4-ssecs, from F. Don who a few meetings ago defeated Barron convincingly. Starting about 300yds from the winning post Barron drew away and Don had no chance of catching him. F. Don, during the Christmas holidays, participated in athletic meetings in Waimate and Timaru and gained two firsts and a third in four starts in half and quarter mile events.
In the sprints for the Juniors Crooks ran well and Kennedy came to light by winning the 220yds. S. Chapman showed good judgment in winning the two senior sprints, beating A. Don narrowly in both.
Miss I. Karsten and Miss D. Eastabrook each gained a first and a second. The ladies’ events provided close finishes inches only separating the place winners.
E. Langley had too good a finish for Parkes in the 4_mile cycle but in the .3 mile Parkes judged his finishing sprint well and won by feet from E.
