NON-FLYING UNIT
AIR FORCE REQUIREMENTS [United Press Association] AUCKLAND, 9th January. About 290 men aged between 20 and 35 years were interviewed yesterday by the selection committee of the Royal New Zealand Air Force at Territorial Squadron Headquarters in Auckland, with a view to enlistment in the nonflying unit. Three doctors were engaged to examine the candidates, about 75 pei cent, of whom were passed fit for service. Skilled tradesmen are most in demand by the committee, which is seeking principally flight riggers and mechanics. The basic training for such occupations is now considered necessary, so that men can be quickly adapted for Air Force requirements. The tiijje factor being all important, installed men, who were taken for training before the war, are not now favoured. Candidates desirous of enlisting in other branches of the Air Force are urged to communicate directly with the Air Department, Wellington. Positions in other divisions are still open, and applications will be given due consideration. The selection committee consists of Messrs S. R. Cochrane and W. L. Comrie, of the Air Department, assisted by Mr E. W. A. Drake, of the Hobsonville air base.
