HANGING FIRE
DISCUSSION ON MINISTER’S RESIGNATION PERSONAL STATEMENT AWAITED In the latest issues of the Press discussion in Britain about the resignation of Mr Hore-Belisha, who on Monday said farewell to his staff at the War Office, is hanging fire till Mr Hore-Belisha can make a personal statement. This lull in comment seems likely to continue till there are more facts to go on.
Mr Oliver Stanley cannot yet take up office as Secretary of War as he is recovering from an attack of influenza It is believed that Mr Chamberlain will speak after Mr Hore-Belisha when he makes his expected statement in the House of Commons next week. What the Prime Minister will say will probably depend on the lines of Mr Hore-Belisha’s speech.
The Labour Party is not going to decide its policy until it has heard the statements next week.
Mr Chamberlain, when he speaks in Ihe City of London, is not expected to say much about the Cabinet changes By radio.
