NELSON SWIMMING CLUB
FOR JUNIOR AND INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIPS CARNIVAL ON THURSDAY The final trials to select the team of intermediate and junior swimmers to represent Nelson at Dunedin this month were held at the Municipal Baths last evening. Some very good performances were put up, a very outstanding swim being done by L. Barry, a junior boy, who swam 220 yards in the good time of 2min 50 sec., while U. J. Walker also made sure of her selection by doing 200 yards in 2min. 59secs. Miss J. Carpenter is diving right up to the best New Zealand standard, and should be hard to beat. Miss N. Dickson is a great possibility in the breaststroke event. The two junior girls are quite good and the trip should be of great benefit to them. Miss M. Nesbitt will contest the junior diving title. The public will have a chance of seeing these swimmers on Thursday evening when a carnival will be held at the Municipal Baths to raise funds towards the expenses of the team. A great programme has been arranged and should be well worth patronising. The following is the official team: 400 Yards Intermediate Backstroke: Miss J. Carpenter. Intermediate Girls’ Diving: Miss J. Carpenter. 220 Yards and 100 Yards Intermediate girls’ Freestyle: Miss U. J. Walker. 220 Yards, 100 Yards Freestyle, 75 Yards Backstroke, Junior Boys: L. Barry. 100 Yards, 50 yards freestyle, 50 Yards Backstroke, Junior Girls: Miss N. Gibbs and Miss B. Hurst. Junior Girls’ Dive: Miss M. Nesbit.
