ESPIONAGE IN AMERICA
REPORT TO CONGRESS [United Press Association) (Received 3rd January, 9.40 a.m.) WASHINGTON, 2nd January. Mr J. Edgar Hoover reported to Congress that there were 1651 cases of espionage in 1939 compared with 250 in 1938. The normal average is 35. Demands on the Federal Bureau of Investigation were the heaviest for fifteen years.
