IMMEDIATE ECONOMIC SMASH STATEMENT BY HON. P. C. WEBB UNEMPLOYED WILL BE ABSORBED IN NEW ZEALAND [United Press Associationj HAMILTON, This Day. “We are going to stimulate the development of local industries who* it can be done economically and fears thac have been expressed in some quarters that we are facing an immediate economic smash are groundless.” said tne Hon. P. C. Webb, in Hamilton last night. “It may be that some workers will lose their employment.” he continued, “but they will be absorbed into new industry which are getting under way. Wherever you go there is an abundance of real industrial activity, and a country that works is a country .that progresses.” HAMILTON MEETING Referring to the mass meeting of farmers and businessmen to be heid in Hamilton on 4th December when the shops will close for half a day, Mr Webb said that he knew the quantity of imported articles had been reduced and in some cases stopped, but ihe Government was determined that New Zealand should live within its income. F' hoped that the meeting would be helpful and would submit practicable proposals.
