There was a sharp drop in the temperature last night, and Nelson came near to having a late frost. Hail fell in the Motueka Valley yesterday afternoon. and light cold rain from the south fell in Nelson during the night. The minimum temperature at the Cawthron Institute was 32.2 degrees, and in colder localities it was probably below freezing point, but a frost was prevented by the wind. Light snow fell on the eastern mountains. To-day was cloudy with a cold southerly wind.
