DEATH OF ANTARCTIC EXPLORER
COMMANDER FRANK WILD (U.P.A.--By Electric Telegraph-Copy r luhr (Received 21st August, 9.0 a.m.) LONDON, 20th August. The death has occurred at Klerksdorp of Commander Frank Wild hitherto the only living descendant of Captain Cook. He lived in penury in South Africa for many years. Commander Wild spent ten years in Antarctica, a record for explorers. Mr Frank Wild accompanied Captain Scott to the Antarctic in the Discovery 1901-04, Shakleton 1907-09, Dr. Mawson 1911-13, Imperial Trans-Ant-arctic Expedition 1914, and was second in command of the ship Quest. He received the Patron’s Medal of the Royal Geographical Society in 1924. He was author of the book “Shakleton’s Last Voyage.”
