WOMEN’S WORLD CONGRESS FOR PEACE
(To The Editor] Sir,—Having had the honour of being appointed by the organising committee in London as a New Zealand Sponsor for the forthcoming Women’s World Congress for Peace and Liberty, in Havana, Cuba, in October next, I would greatly esteem your assistance in helping me to extend among the women of this Dominion knowledge of and interest in the purpose and programme of l this Congress, and the desire to ensure i that New Zealand shall be well represented there. In the programme for the ! meeting the different specific questions have been grouped under the following } headings:—
Problems of Peace, Modern Warfare Democracy as a Force for Peace, the Roll of Women in the Organisation of Peace and Defence against Aggression, the Task of Women’s Organisations.
The women of South America have invited the women from aJI over the world to take part in this Congress. It will occupy four days, and its setting is the beautiful city of Havana whose citizens offer an imposing welcome and lavish hospitality. At present two women are offering to attend from this country, but there is no limit to the number who may go—except, of course, that of finance.
All organisations for peace, and all individuals whose heartfelt desire is for peace (are any not included here?) can help to remove this limit. Each of our cities should be sending at least one representative. So let each form its local committee and set to work quickly for there is no time to lose.
A return fare to Havana is in the vicinity of £llO, and so far as known at present the Rangitane, sailing on 21st September for Panama, with an easy connection from there to Havana would be suitable. Twenty-two countries (including New Zealand) will take part in the Congress, the women of which are moved by more than horror at the sufferings of men, women and children, the victims of war—they are moved by the will to act.—l am. etc.,
A. E. JEROME SPENCER. Sponsor, Women’s World Congress. Omatua (Private Bag), Napier.
