“EXPLANATION DUE”

CITY COUNCIL’S ACTION TAHUNANUI TOWN BOARD INDIGNANT “I think there is an explanation due to the Board from the City Council,” said Mr L. Haywood at last evening's meeting of the Tahunanui Town Board when it was brought to the notice of members that a section of Queen’s Drive which is under the Board’s jurisdiction was being dug up by the Nelson City Council in order to lay water pipes. The matter was brought forward by Mr Haywood who asked whether the City Council had been given sanction to carry out work on the road, and if not whether it was the usual practice for a local body to act in that manner without receiving permission from the other body concerned. “It comes as a great surprise to me to hear that the council is doing this work,” said the chairman, Mr C. H. Chamberlain. “I was asked the other day why the Board was digging up roads on the hill and I thought the person who asked me was ‘talking out of the back of his neck.’" “Easily half the road is affected.” said Mr Haywood, “and there is only room for one way traffic.” On the motion of Mr W. Gould, seconded by Mr Haywood it was resolved that the Nelson City Council be asked for an explanation of their action in this matter.
