MEETING OF TOWN BOARD RATES FOR YEAR APPROVED FOREMAN’S AND ENGINEER S ' j REPORTS At the fortnightly meeting of the Ta- i • hunanui Town Board held last evening j; there were present: Messrs C. H. It was also I: iesolved that a discount of 24 per cent, j be allowed for prompt payment. FOREMAN’S REPORT ; The foreman, Mr E. E. Win. reported j as follows: Work on the Main road footpath has j been finished, and the footpath from ; Liddlc's stoi-e to Moana street has been j re-formed and partly metalled. Green | street and Golf road are being gone on j with as the metal comes to hand. A start has also been made with the mci tailing of Golf road footpath. During . the wet weather a few slips have come [down on Coronation road, but have not ■interfered with traffic. Some will have ; to be shifted when dry enough, to clear {the watertables. The grader made a ! start to-day. There are at present ; twelve No. 13 Scheme men working. ENGINEER’S REPORT The report of the Engineer (Mr G. J Blake) was as follows: The Highways’ Board grader lias ■ been obtained and is working of the j flat, and is to start on Muritai street tomorrow morning when 18 chains will be ripped up and the base course laid ; down. The Waimea Power Board are shift- . ing three poles on the hill, two of which are chargeable to the board at about £5 each. Poles in Golf road , from Green street to near Beach road ; are to be adjusted free of charge to the : board. Before it is possible to proceed with l work on the Bisley Avenue and Moana ' Avenue sections survey data of the tra-
verse must be obtained. It will only cost a few shillings to get the necessary tracing from the Lands and Survey Dejpartment. Mr Ingram reported that he had investigated the possibility of having the board’s own horse grader made ready for use again, and it would cost about £5.
It was decided that the repairs be undertaken so that the machine could be used for light work such as spreading surface metal. CORRESPONDENCE Mr M. Cussen wrote concerning the condition of the road outside his property in Edward street, and it was resolved that the engineer be instructed to carry out necessary work. Mrs C. L. Goodman asked that the fcoard take action regarding trees which were shading her property in Green street. It was poinied on that as the trees were cn prime property, the board could If ke no action m the matter. The chairman stated, however.
that the trees were on his property, and he was willing for them to be topped if Mrs Goodman liked to have the work cVne. The Nelson Progress League asked for a donation to their funds, and it was resolved to allot the usual sum of £3 the League Mr H. Atmore, M.P., advised that the Minister of Labour the Hon. P. C. A ebb. had agreed to provide labour ?oi the work on the proposed access into Centennial Memorial Park. It was resolved that letters of thanks be sent to both Mr Atmore and Mr Webb for their assistance in this matter.
