PAUL BOESCH DISQUALIFIED BLOMFIELD PINNED WITHIN FEW SECONDS OF START A LIVELY BOUT In the professional wrestling bout between Lofty Blomfield 16st 81bs (N.Z.) and Paul Boescli 16st 41bs (U.S.A.) last night the latter was disqualified in the seventh round for preventing Blomfield re-entering the ring after he had been thrown through the ropes. Each had one fall to his credit, Boesch pinning Blomfield within a few seconds of the start following two dropkicks, and Blomfield gaining a submission in the fifth round with his well known octopus clamp. It was a lively bout throughout and provided a good night’s sport for a full house at the Theatre Royal. Mr A. Jenkins, of Wellington, was the referee.

Boesch made a spectacular opening by rushing across the ring and immediately knocking Blomfield to the mat with a dropkick. No sooner had Blomfield regained his feet than Boesch repeated the dose and he jumped on! Blomfield to secure a fall. In the second round Boesch secured; a head scissors in which he held Blom-; field for some time. However, Blom-! field broke free and there was some] lively wrestling in the round. The third round also opened in a lively fashion with Blomfield forcing Boesch onto the ropes in a headlock. Boesch missed with a dropkick and then secured a short arm scissors in which he held Blomfield and rolled him about the ring. Blomfield resorted to hair pulling and other tactics for which he was warned by the referee. Blomfield then secured a crucifix but Boesch escaped and swung his opponent around by the legs. However he could not get his opponent in position for a Boston Crab. Blomfield worked on an arm stretch and before the end of the round there was some good wrestling on the mat. In. the fourth Boesch secured a reverse splits but Blomfield jerked himself out of • it and stood up with an Indian deathlock on Boesch. However Boesch upset his opponent and the hold was broken by the referee as Boesch was partly through the ropes. It. was another good lively round in

which the crowd had plenty of laughs' from the wrestlers’ showmanship. Round five saw Blomfield use elbow jolts but Boesch returned them in good measure and then Boesch used the dropkick to advantage. Blomfield attacked, throwing Boesch around the ring. Both made several headlong butts at each other providing plenty of action before Blomfield went in and secured his famous octopus clamp to which Boesch submitted. In round six Boesch exploited a full Nelson with his legs and with plenty of action on the mat the performers kept their spectators keenly interested. Round seven saw Boesch send Blomfield sprawling through the ropes and every time he tried to re-enter Boesch butted him back or used his dropkick to keep him out. After several warnings by the referee Boesch was disqualified. He commenced an argument with the referee and used a dropkick after the decision, and that ended a bright display of wrestling. AMATEUR PRELIMINARIES The amateurs who provided the preliminaries all gave good exhibitions in which solid, full-out wrestling was the order. All the contestants were very fit, and in that respect set an example that many more young men should follow. The keen, honest wrestling of the amateurs was a tribute to those interested in the local wrestling schools. G. Bate 9.6 beat N. Stewart lu.O by one fall in the first round.

M. Snook 11.4 beat R. Russell 11.2 by a fall in the third round. K. Haase 11.6 beat J. Smith 12.0 with a fall at the end of three evenly contested rounds. It was a lively bout. L. Powrie 10J2 beat H. Low 11.0 by one fall in the third round. Mr N. Fowler was the third man in the ring for the amateur bouts.
