Mute evidence of an early New ZeaI iano tragedy was brought to light when (the skull of a Maori woman, split by a greenstone adze, which was still wedged in the bone, wasTound on the beach at Porangahau. The adze is of indifferent quality A tiki and car pendants were discovered with the skeleton.
