SNOW IN WANGANUI DISTRICT
(United Press Asocial ion) WANGANUI, This Day. Heavy snow fell in the Wanganui district, while in the city itself there was a light sprinkle. The snowfall was the first si close to Wanganui for some years, and was .the climax to days of wind, rain and cold. The snowfall in the district varied from a few inches to a foot, and was the heaviest for years and set in with amazing suddenness. The biggest fall in the district was at Karioi, wher more than a foot fell. Snow fell at Taihape to a depth of two inches, and the hills surrounding the town were heavily covered. The hills on the outskirts of Marton were mantled with snow, and even on the flats snow reached a depth of two inches, while Hunterville also had one of the heaviest falls for years. At the Chateau snow continued to fall steadily throughout the night and skiing was popular. Six inches Toll at JRaetihi, one
of the heaviest falls in memory. Snow fell all night at Tokomaru west, and motorists had difficulty in getting through.
