MOTUEKA

SCOUT COMMITTEE MEETING ASSISTANT-SCOUTMASTER APPOINTED Mr C. Russell presided at the monthly meeting of the Motueka Scout Committee, held at Mrs Manifold’s room last evening. Reference was made by the chairman to the loss which Mrs Parks—a member of the committee—had sustained, when her home was destroyed by fire on Sunday. It was decided that the secretary forward a letter of sympathy to Mrs Park; and that the scouts join in any effort being made on her behalf. The scoutmaster (Mr E. Light) in his report, stated that the scout attendance had averaged 12 since last meeting of the committee. One or two meetings had been held on Saturday afternoon, visits being paid to Jackett’s Island. Cookery tests had been successfully held and also signalling exercises. The insurance scheme had not been reported on yet, but all had agreed to take part. WOLF CUB PACK The cubmaster (Mr J. Rowling) reported as follows: “For the winter months meetings have been changed from Friday nights Saturday afternoons. The attendance for the first part of the month was small but has improved again. Miss Nancy Manifold has joined up as assistant cub-master. I feel sure that Miss Manifold will be quite capable in this position.” The reports of the scoutmaster and cubmaster were received.

The secretary (Mr V. Wallis) informed members that he had received the census forms which had to be filled in and returned as soon as possible to the district secretary’s office. On the motion of Mr and Mrs G. Manifold it was agreed that Mr H. Lindup be appointed assistant scoutmaster. Mr Light explained to the meeting that he would be leaving the district in September, and going to America; at the end of that time (three months') the assistant scoutmaster would be able to take his place. It was decided, in conformity with regulations, that the Motueka group scarf be registered. The secretary was instructed to forward to district headquarters, a rough sketch of same indicating the colours. It was also decided that the annual meeting of the Motueka Scout Committee be held on 3rd July in the Methodist Hall. In connection with the Jamboree applications Mr Light averred that the scouts were making satisfactory progress with their second class tests.
