THE GOWAN SCHEME

ITo The Editorl Sir, —It seems very remarkable that our local bodies do not realise the folly of waiting any longer for power from the Cobb knowing how urgently more electric energy is required in the Nelson district. Surely it is high time and opportune to bring r.ll pressure possible upon the Government to develop the Gowan scheme without wasting any more time. This is obviously the only satisfactory solution and it is suggestive that Mr E. P. Meachen, M.P. (Blenheim) assured the writer some time ago the Government intended to obtain power from Lake Rotoroa to electrify trains from Picton to Christchurch when the East Coast railway is completed.—l am etc. H. G. BERRYMAN. Nelson, 12th June.
