EMERGENCY HOSPITALS

BRITISH PLANS IN CASE OF WAR I British Oll.t iai Wirelessl RUGBY, 11th June. Speaking on emergency hospital accommodation, the Minister of Health, Mr Walter Elliot, said in the House of Commons that, by sending suitable cases to their homes and by crowding up existing buildings, 200.000 hospital beds would be made available for the treatment of casualties within 24 hours of the outbreak of war. Another 500,000 beds would be provided in hospital buildings. These would not be enough, however, and he had. therefore, given a beginning to a scheme for providing 40,000 more beds, mostly in hutted extensions to existing hospitals, but partly in a small number of complete hospitals in hutments.
