PRICE CHARITY CUP MATCHES j ATHLETIC AND CELTIC DRAW Y.M.C.A. DEFEAT THISTLE I The semi-final games for the Price Charity Cup knock-out competition- in the Association code were played al Victory Square on Saturday, when two interesting games resulted. In spite of the recent rains the ground was in good order, but conditions were marred by a strong westerly wind which at limes affected the play. Athletic and Celtic farew 3 all, necessitating a replay, and Y.M.C.A. beat Thistle 3-1. ATHLETIC AND CELTIC DRAW EACH SIDE SCORES 2 GOALS Athletic and Celtic played the early game at Victory Square. Both teams gave a good exhibition and a draw was a fair indication of the game. Mechen and 1. Da Vanso. were excellent in defence and Twort was outstanding in the forwards for Athletic, whilst Coxhill, Hurst, Albrecht and ; Louis were prominent for Celtic. The teams lined up as follows:
Athletic: Strange. Mechin. I. Da Vanso. Lawrie, Lowans, Edridge, Smith, Burke. Twort, A. De Vanso. Williams. Celtic: Bunster, N. Banks, Coxhill, Ward, Hurst, Bolton, H. Banks, Albrecht. Louis, Potts. Booth. Celtic kicked off’ and even exchanges followed until the Athletic right wing broke away. Burke placed the ball nicely for Twort who shot hard. Bunster effecting a good clearance Celtic took up the attack Albrecht finishing ; with a fine drive but Strange was equal to the occasion and cleared in good 1 style. Celtic attacked again. Booth putting in an ideal centre. Louis met it 1 with his heart and Strange managed to | fist the ball out to Mechin who cleared i well up the field Athletic were award- ] .*'*?. a free kick three yards from the I Celtic goal In the ensuing scramble the Athletic forwards bustled the ball i into goal. Athletic 1, Celtic 0 Athletic came with a rush but Edridge shot well over the bar. In clearj ing Coxhill put in a big kick which | Hurst secured and he passed neatly to Albrecht who put in a pot shot which , twisted wide of the goalkeeper into the 1 net. Celtic 1, Athletic 1.
Celtic were pressing when the whistle blew for half-time.
Upon resumption of the game N. Banks went in goal and Bunster to right half for Celtic. During the interval a strong wind began to blow with the advantage to Athletic. Celtic were first to attack but Mechin in defence held the upper hand and made several good clearances, while Laurie was doing some good work in defence and attack. The Athletic forwards combined nicely Smith finishing with a fin* centre which Burke met with a first time shot. Banks made an excellent cleararice The wind was making the ball difficult to kick and several passes went the wrong way. A neat bit of play by Hurst placed the ball to H. Banks who put in a good centre upon which Louis pounced on the ball and drove >t well wide of Strange. Celtic- 2. Athletic 1. Twort now played back for Athletic weakening the forwards considerably and they seldom looked like scoring, until A Da Vanso broke through and put in a brilliant run, taking the ball into the net with him. Athletic 2. Celtic 2. With only two minutes left to play, both teams tried hard to score the winning goal, but the defences prevailed until the end. with the scores remaining Athletic 2. Celtic 2. Mr W Richards controlled the game.
