MORE HOPS IN BEER
REMIT AT FARMERS’ CONFERENCE "PURE FOOD AND DRUG ACT” "That beer be brought under the Pure Foods Act,” was a remit winch created some humour at the annual conterence of the Nelson Farmers’ Union. The proposal emanated from the Moutere branch, whose delegate stalld that a lot of chemicals were being used in the production of beer and members of the Moutere branch wished more hops to be used. Chorus of voices: “Hear! Hear!” One member asked that the Act be given its full name—" The Pure Foods and Drug Act ’ A Voice: “There lias been a lot ol trouble with intoxicated motorists and we’re trying to get some pure beer that will not make people drunk.” On the remit being put to the conference. it was carried unanimously.
